Easy Ad Design . . . 1, 2, 3
Step 1 - Consider your photo is it Portrait or Landscape orientation? Is there a complimentary color in the photo to use as a background color? Will the photo fill the entire page, or will there be text on the same page as the photo? This will help to determine the best layout for your advertisement.

Step 2 - Choose a background color, request a custom color background, or choose no color (white background).
Step 3 - Choose a type style, size and color. Use black or navy text on light backgrounds and white or light color text on dark backgrounds. As a rule of thumb San Serif (straight lines no curls or serifs in the font) fonts are easier to read, this is the best font for the body of the advertisement (ie; dogs accomplishments). The heading (dogs registered name and call name) should use a larger font size (24pt, 30pt, 32 pt, 36 pt) and is the best place to use a Script (more formal font similar to handwriting) or Serif font. Be sure to consider how the dogs titles will look as they are all upper case.
Step 4 - Choose a border style and color to use around your photo. Or, choose no border.
Step 5 - Choose a layout or describe your own ideas for a custom layout.
Step 6 - Write out the accomplishments or ad copy for the body of the ad. Be sure to include the sire and dam name's, date of birth, breeder, owner and any health clearances you would like to highlight.
Custom design services are available for approximately $150.00 for a typical design with one photo and full color correction. Please contact us a least two weeks prior to the advertisement deadline so that we can arrange for your ad to be professionally designed by one of our design partners.
Electronic file submission
Be sure to consider the final page size when designing your ad. Printed Image Area is 7.125 x 9.875" (black area) Trim Size is 8.313 x 10.87" (white area) Full Bleed Size is 8.7 x 11.22" (gray area)
Acceptable digital formats and applications include;
QuarkExpress 4.0 or 5.0 PC or Mac saved as an EPS file
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 or older
Adobe PDF files, tiff files, or EPS files.
Microsoft word files in PC format.
Please include all fonts and photos with your file.
Digital or electronic submissions must include digital file of the final ad.
Accepted media - CD or DVD, please include a printed copy of the ad.
Acceptable applications include QuarkExpress 4.0 or 5.0, PC or Mac.
Save black and white photos scans as grayscale or bitmap images. Save color photo scans as EPS or TIFF format. Save all color scans as CMYK.
Glossy photos are recommended. Matte finish or digital prints using electronic methods do not produce high-quality images. Ink jet printed images sent as originals do not produce high-quality images.
We recommend 8 x 10" photos for full-page photo ads. Or the original digital image.
E-mailing ad text
When sending ad text via e-mail either include an attachment in ASCII text or as a Word document and be sure to reference the font style you are using, or include the ad text in the body of your e-mail and provide us with the font style information. All e-mail correspondence should reference your name, dogs name and your kennel name.
Remember submit materials on time. This allows us the time to notify you if problems occur and allows us to complete each issue in a timely manor.
